“You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.” – Winston Churchill

During the working day, it’s natural to be preoccupied with our own tasks and needs – especially when we’re responding to deadlines, performance indicators and ever-growing inboxes. Sometimes it’s hard to look up and outwards, and be aware of what other people may need from us. Yet warm and strong working relationships based on regular give and take are essential to prosperity and wellbeing.

Generosity starts with being observant. During the week, notice how you can make a positive difference to someone you work with – perhaps through a word of encouragement, sharing a skill or some information, or just helping with a task. Find the time and goodwill to act on what you see – if possible, stretching yourself beyond your normal comfort zone.

What difference would it make if everyone found the time to be more generous towards each other?
